Rotary Step Down Party: Please mark your calendars. This year our step down party will happen on June 24th at our favorite place, The Hitching Post. Terri Stricklin has circulated a clipboard so that she can get a handle as to how many people will attend and what menu item they prefer. If you have not yet signed up, you better get with it.
 
Santa Maria Police Golf Tournament: Monday June 11. If interested, Jerry Schmidt has all the details and a sign up sheet.
 
 
Concerts in the Park: Teresa Reyburn announced that the new season of Concerts in the Park is on it's way. The concerts are offered every Sunday beginning at 1:00 pm at Rotary Park. Come and see different entertainment every week during the course of the summer.
 
 
Check Presentation: This week our club was proud to donate $1,000 t0 the Santa Maria Elks Antlers organization. They were a great help to us at our recent Barn Party Luau Fundraiser.
 
 
Paul Harris Award: Leonard Champion was awarded his first Paul Harris pin by District Governor John Weiss.
 
 
Multiple Paul Harris Winners: Jerry Walsh, Dave Wright & Tim Seifert were given their sixth Paul Harris award by District Governor John Weiss.
 
 
Four Way Test Essay Winner: John Weiss presented Akemi Karamisos with a $100 check for her award winning essay. Great job Akimi!
 
 
 
BRAGS ONLY / NO FINES
 
  Note: This week all brags were dedicated to our scholarship fund.
 
Tony Spinelli: was happy to brag that he and his wife just celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary. $30
 
Jim Peterson: just returned from five hot days in the desert where he played golf with some good friends and happened to be on the winning team. $30
 
Jim Ventriglia: has been married to Roxanne for 47 years! To celebrate that event, he bought her a brand new red Cadillac, What a guy!!! $50
 
District Governor John Weiss: bragged on Scottie Ortiz for being an honorary member of his Morro Bay Club. She also made him crycrying , but that's another story. $5
 
Ted Ortega: went to hot Las Vegas for four days and watched ice hockey (smart man). He also golfed with the guys on the winning team. $25
 
Ken Bradley: was excited to brag on his kids. They are scholar athletes and are doing extremely well in school with awesome GPA's. They are spectacular kids and he's very proud of them. $50
 
Kate Ferguson: recently returned from a trip to Europe. She and her husband had a fantastic time and enjoyed every minute of it.......but now she's broke (just kidding). $30
 
Debbie Blow: also celebrated a recent wedding anniversary. 38 years as a matter of fact. She is very happy that her husband is once again in good health and she looks forward to many more years to come. $38
 
Michelle Jensen: thanked everyone that helped with the recent Roger Hill awards. She will elaborate further at a future meeting. $30
 
Lee Carroll: he gave his wife a 1968 Nova. Apparently it goes very, very fast and they both like it a lot. Oh, he also went to the Santa Maria Speedway for the first time and had an absolute blast (he also roped in someone as a future speaker). $25
 
Mike Gibson: thanked the entire club membership for showing great support at last week's scholarship meeting. Approximately 140 attended with a total of $31,000 in awards given. $30
 
Jerry Schmidt: took his family to the Rodeo last weekend. It was a great event and Jerry says that in his opinion, it was the "best one ever". He sent a big "shout out" to Peter Sterling and all of his volunteer helpers. $25
 
Peter Sterling: bragged on everyone that helped make the 75th Annual Elks Rodeo a successful event. It was a lot of work but everything went off smoothly without a hitch. $50
 
Mark Jackson: bragged on Jessica Carroll (Lee's daughter) for contacting him to get information on going to Guatemala to help out during the current crisis. In his opinion, she's a very special person that has the spirit of Rotary in her heart. $25
 
Jack Gresser: just got back from Hawaii and joined the guys in the desert for golf (although he was on the losing team). By the way, he also had a birthday. $71
 
Jean-luc Garon: he golfed on the losing team but,............he was the overall MVP of the entire group (so take that guys) $50
 
Leonard Champion: recently returned from a vacation to the southern states of the USA. He and his family had a great time. He also bragged on the recent golf tournament that the fire department put on where they raised $22,000. That was worth a whopping $100
 
Craig Bernard: his wife Kelly has officially retired from teaching, he golfed in the desert and his two grandkids are having birthdays this month. Lot's of things happening. Another big brag of $100.
 
Frank Ortiz: bragged $50 on the privilege of having foreign exchange student Nai-Yun Chang stay with them during the course of this past scholastic year. She was a pleasure to get to know. Now Frank & Scottie are headed to Las Vegas to see the grandkids. travel safely.
